About Michelle Day It all started in Pendleton Oregon where I grew up on a corner of a wheatfield on the Umatilla Indian Reservation. My family on all sides have been in Pendleton and Oregon since the 1800's.
My life's journey has been an interesting mix of places and experiences including six years in Budapest Hungary (where I began my love of making jewelry). Two years after returning home in 2005 I decided to make jewelry a full time business. There was an inner turmoil for a time as to whether I should focus on my western roots or stay with the contemporary designs I'd been creating.
Western design and lifestyle is like nothing else and the pull it had on me made me realize it's where I belong. It's home and just feels right. I still love an occasional trip to a big city however! I found recently on a trip I was more interested in buying cowboy boots than the cutest new sandals on display.
In 2007 I decided to try my hand at carving and tooling leather. While I was taking lessons I came up with the idea of tooled leather pendants. I developed a new found respect for leather artists and realized I should stay with making jewelry! The search began for someone to make them for me. It took three years of working with seven different people until I found Clair Kehrberg of John Day, Oregon. She instantly understood my vision and we've been a great team ever since.
When you add it all up, the sum puts me in a unique situation to create
jewelry that you truly won't find anywhere else. I love statement
pieces and you'll find my work is on the bold side! I design intuitively and let the colors and shapes flow. I don't stop until the result of the inspiration is just right.
The feedback I receive from happy customers and their continuing business gives me great joy.
My wish for you is to enjoy this website and my jewelry, I look forward to hearing from you!
